I am not ready to be middle aged. I still feel like a 20-something most days. I still remember my youth, my wild times. Why should it go by so fast?
I still have a couple of years before I am officially "over the hill", but I tell you. I am fighting it tooth and nail! By the time I turn 40, I will be healthier and happier. I plan on having a skating party with disco music. You other old fogies remember skating to Boogie Nights? Or Disco Inferno? I used to love going to the skating rink when I was a kid and skating to all that cool disco music.
I had my first kiss at the skating rink. Couple skating. His name was Heath and he was my best friend's boyfriend. But he swore up and down that they had broken up. Boy's learn to lie early, don't they? I wasn't any better; I believed him. Boy, he sure was cute.
Then came the 80's. Big hair bands and stage makeup. Now my parents were very strict so I was never allowed to own a record (no, there were no CD's back then) by KISS or any other satanic-looking group, but I wanted to. Oh yes! I wanted to jam in my bedroom to Detroit Rock City and Shout it Out Loud. So.... I listened to Phil Collins, Chicago, Journey, U2, you get the picture.
Now college was another matter. I listened to Cinderella, the Scorpions, Foreigner, Def Leppard, Yes, Rush, Bon Jovi, Loverboy, Billy Squier, etc... College rocked! I really wish I could go back in time and do college all over again. There are many things I would do over. And only I will know what they are.
Now, when I turn 50, I shall join the Red Hat Society and found my own chapter so we can go places wearing red and purple and looking fabulous, Baby! I will be a rebel. But I guess I am already a rebel. Even though I try to set a good example for my kids so they will grown up well-adjusted and polite, they also know the sound of cool 80's rock! Nothing beats it, in my opinion.
But I shall throw in some Boingo, some old Ministry (before they went freaky), George Clinton and the Parliment Funkadelic, Heart, the Eagles, Duran Duran, Fleetwood Mac, the Black Eyed Peas, Peter Gabriel, oh and don't forget Buffett to name a few. Can't forget Elton John! Yikes!
Oh, and what's up with Vixtrola? They did a kick-butt song on the soundtrack of Darkness Falls a few years ago. I need to hear more of them.
Speaking of kick-butt songs, Feed my Frankenstein by Alice Cooper is awesome! Get's me going when I need some energy. LOL This post has gone from feeling sorry for myself for growing older and now I feel much younger just thinking of these songs. Gotta go listen to some music now.
Look at your Aunt Linda. I'm a teenager in a 55 year old body. We - your mom, your aunt Jody, your Aunt Von, and myself - had a ball this week-end riding what Jody and I call our "scotter poopers". We laughed and felt the wind in our hair. Do we ever grow old? Not if we don't want to. The body can quit on us but our mind can stay young. So be it. God helps us daily. Love you Girl.
