It was the days before Christmas
And all through the house
I was hiding Christmas candy
Scurrying around like a mouse.
The cookies I hid
In the bookcase with care,
Hoping that no one would
Go looking for them there.
The caramels I hid
In the back of my freezer
They’ll keep for awhile
Maybe all winter.
The leftover candy
From this past Halloween,
I hid in the pantry
Behind the navy beans.
And all of the cordials
I decided to hoard
In my bedroom closet
Under a loose board.
And no one will find
The peanut brittle I bought
My plans are tight
I’ll never get caught
And I’ll nibble all winter
On my delicious stash
Hoping no one will notice
The wrappers in the trash.
