A few days ago, my oldest who is 10, asked me a question. He asked me if Santa was real.
Well, I've been waiting for this particular question for a couple of years now and was prepared when it came. Sad...but prepared.
I told him that Santa had been a real person a long time ago, but that he died when his time came. I explained that grown-ups took over his job and kept the magic of Santa going when he couldn't anymore. I welcomed him into the "club", so to speak, and said he had an important job now of keeping the magic alive for his younger brother and anyone other child who still believed.
He took it rather well. In fact, he said he was slightly annoyed at me for lying to him all those years. Yikes. But he said he understood why I did it and that he was excited to be "in the loop". Crazy kid.
I am blessed to have such wonderful children. They are like all children and have their moments, but down deep, where it counts, they are loving, caring kids. I am blessed.
