Well, those pesky cicadas are still hanging around and making quite a buzz around town. Literally.
We all hopped in the van today, including our dog, Maggie, and headed for grandma's house for some great cicada time. The in-laws live in an old part of their neighborhood, so there are tons of cicadas flying around, mating, and generally making a nuisance of themselves.
However, Maggie, loves it.
This dog has never eaten a bug that I know of, but when it comes to cicadas...she chows down and doesn't stop until she gets thirsty. She was going around the yard and eating at her own bug buffet. I mean, it was hilarious! We would grab a cicada, and throw it in front of her and she would grab it in midair. She ate them like popcorn.
Of course, there are a lot of nutritional benefits to eating a cicada. Not that I would like to find out myself, but I hear they are high in protein. Many animals like to eat cicadas, including dogs, cats, foxes, birds and even people.
Right now, the little critters are busy hooking up and making little cicadas. Pretty soon, all those fun party goers will die off and fertilize your lawn, and the babies (about the size and description of a grain of rice) will begin falling from the trees and tunnel into the earth to wait 17 years before starting the cycle all over again.
I know Maggie will miss them.

"I believe that no matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, you can not baptize cats." - Larry the Cable Guy
A Tennessee man and an Alabama man were both fighting in a war and were captured by the enemy.
"Before we put you to death," said the enemy, "do you have any last requests?"
"Yes," said the Alabaman. "Could you play 'Yeah, Alabama' before you shoot me?"
"Sure," said the enemy. "How about you, Tennessean?"
"Could you shoot me before you play 'Yeah, Alabama?'"
