An Old Book is Like a Friend
I was working in the school library today, entering in new books and such, when I ran across an old book that looked slightly familiar.
I set it aside, but as I worked, it teased the back of my mind. I had seen it somewhere. I just knew it. So, I opened the book. It was titled, Andrew Henry's Meadow, by Doris Burn. The title alone didn't spark any memories, but the drawings inside did.
The story is about a boy named Andrew Henry who loves to invent things, but it drives his family crazy, so he decides to leave home and build his own house. After a while, he finds a beautiful meadow and begins building. He is soon joined by other children who have hobbies that their family can't abide, so he builds them each a house in the meadow as well until there is practically a small village.
I remember thinking, and this had to have been over 30 years ago, that I wished that I could build myself a little house like Andrew Henry's. The feelings of joy from that book have trickled into my consciousness and reminded me that children can do anything if they set their minds to it.
Here's what a reader had to say on Amazon.com about this book..."Recently I reflected back on my childhood and up popped the memory of that beloved book! I remembered the book so enchanting it crossed my mind that I might of dreamed it. The places that book took me to as a child was like a dream-state!"
That's exactly how I felt as the memories of this book revealed themselves to me. And what it most amazing about this find is that when I researched it on the internet, it turns out that there is a movie in the making based on this book and is due out in 2007!
What a small world it is and how fun when things come full circle.

"I believe that no matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, you can not baptize cats." - Larry the Cable Guy
A Tennessee man and an Alabama man were both fighting in a war and were captured by the enemy.
"Before we put you to death," said the enemy, "do you have any last requests?"
"Yes," said the Alabaman. "Could you play 'Yeah, Alabama' before you shoot me?"
"Sure," said the enemy. "How about you, Tennessean?"
"Could you shoot me before you play 'Yeah, Alabama?'"
